JACQUES VILLON

     

Jacques Villon studied with the Spanish cellist, Marçal Cervera, in Freiburg, Germany and with the German cellist, Wolfgang Mehlhorn, in Hamburg. During his 8-year stay in Europe he also participated in various master classes. In Hamburg he regularly played for the Hamburger Camerata and taught the cello in Lüneburg.

On returning to South Africa in 1993 he engaged in teaching activities at various schools in Johannesburg. In 1996 he started teaching in Meadowlands, Soweto and later became involved in teaching at the Buskaid Soweto String Project in Diepkloof, Soweto where he taught until February 2003.

Jacques performs regularly with the SASOL Pro Musica Orchestra and as soloist.

In the beginning of 1999 Jacques and his mother founded a financial consultants firm and soon followed with another partnership with their brother and son in a Business Intelligence firm of which Jacques is the CEO.

In his spare time Jacques is writing a book on the topic of spirituality.

Jacques plays on a cello built in 1991 by the Dutch violin builder, Marc de Sterke, called "Destiny"
